When I was about 16 years old, outside of our favorite coffee shop, my grandfather ruined my life.
Well, no. He did not actually ruin my life. That’s just what I thought at the time. He and I were enjoying an “extra hot” cup of coffee and a conversation about a tough situation I was dealing with at the time, when he told me, “You cannot be afraid to say what needs to be said even if you’re hated for doing it.” He went on to add what changed my life, “no matter what it is in life if you tolerate it, you promote it.” With those words, took the bliss out of my ignorance and he was saving my soul.
So what exactly do I mean by that?
Well, at that time, I really didn’t have any strong beliefs of my own. I knew the difference between right and wrong, of course. But, in the world we live in today, evil is often times wrapped up and presented to us with a big beautiful bow so that we are fooled into thinking it’s something we want, even something we need. Giving into temptation has never been easier and is almost dignified in our society today.
That day, my grandfather brought something to the front of my mind that most people don’t think about over the course of their entire lives. It was a lot to digest. He is one of the strongest and most vigilant Catholics that I have ever met. Everything that he teaches me comes from his knowledge of his faith and that our lives on earth are a spiritual preparation for the day of final judgment. There is one thing more important than complacency, earthly pleasures and indulgences, and “tolerance” of the sins around us and that is our faith; and with that comes our responsibility to fight for it. When it comes to Christianity, The Lord holds His children accountable for their actions as well as their inaction. We must keep in mind that we are put on this earth to do God’s will and that if we are not part of the solution, we are part of the problem.
“If you tolerate it, you promote it.”
In the last week of this election, as Christians, we need to examine our consciences and embrace the real and absolute truth that if we allow, accept, or tolerate something we are promoting it—plain and simple. Opting out is not an option on November 8th. The more difficult the decision may seem, the harder we need to fight for the truth and for God.
There seems to be an inverse relationship between support for Hillary Clinton and respect for Godly and Christian values. I said in an article recently that Donald Trump personifies accountability. Well, Hillary Clinton personifies hedonism. Those who seek to get her elected seem to excuse lying, cheating, stealing, and homicide in order to get whatever they want to make them feel good. This is exactly what we are warned about: giving into temptation as a way to feel good. Adam ate the fruit when the serpent offered it. He gave into temptation rather than to do as The Lord commanded. Hillary Clinton is a serpent in the garden that is America and she is tempting Christians in this country with forbidden fruit in divisive ways we have never seen before.
It is asked of us, in the book of Psalms, “Who will stand up for me against the evildoers? Who will take his stand for me against those who do wickedness? If The Lord had not been my help, my soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.” What we are facing in this election is the most wicked, evildoing candidate that has ever run for the presidency of this great nation. To abstain from standing up against that evil, no matter how much easier it may seem, would be a conscious choice to let your soul dwell in the abode of silence. Do not stay silent—our lives and our souls both depend on it.
There will only be one of two outcomes in this election. Either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will be voted in as the next president of the United States. There is not even a sliver of a chance that anyone else will be elected; therefore, a vote for anyone else is a vote for the greater of two evils at the expense of your soul.
I don’t say that to scare Christians, I say it because it is the simple truth.
Christians need to focus on the preservation of life, liberty, and justice in America. There is no denying that Hillary is the candidate of death. From supporting abortion at any stage of pregnancy, to her blatant disregard for the safety of the citizens of this country, she has proven to be an anti-Christian candidate in every single way possible.
America’s soul is at stake. If Hillary Clinton wins due to the inaction of Christians, only time will tell if they can stand the consequences, or if they will soon be on their knees in confession.
